Kenpachi Zaraki is the captain of the 11th Division — renowned as the most formidable fighter in the Gotei 13. His relationship with power is the central paradox of his character: he deliberately handicaps himself (with a headband that absorbs his strength and a habit of fighting with one hand) so that his opponents can put up sufficient resistance to satisfy his love of combat. Introduced in the Soul Society arc as the main antagonist, he goes on to become one of Ichigo’s most important allies. His spiky hair, adorned with bells, is, according to Tite Kubo himself, ‘among the most difficult to draw in the entire series’ — a fact that lends this dôga its special significance.
