Description
Tetsujin 28-gō (鉄人28号) Tetsujin 28 Pencil and coloured pencil artwork created for the anime series based on Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s (横山 光輝) manga. Executed in ink and gouache. Produced by TMS 1980–1981, Japan H25 L28 cm The giant robot remotely controlled by a child is both the first and the most enduring of the armour archetypes in Japanese animation. Seventy years after Yokoyama’s original manga, the franchise continues to spawn adaptations — proof that the founding idea (colossal power entrusted to a human being who must prove themselves worthy of it) remains alive and well. This still from the 1980 version brings this segment on this foundational character to a close: before *Saint Seiya*, before *Samurai of Eternity*, before *Transformers*, there was *Tetsujin*.
