King Leo - Jungle Emperor (ジャングル大帝) Leo (Kimba) and his cub Hand-painted celluloid sheet used in the production of the anime King Leo, based on the work of Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫). Executed in ink and gouache on a printed background. Produced by Tezuka Production 1997, Japan H26 L36.5 cm King Leo — *Jungle Emperor Leo* in the original version — is the work of Osamu Tezuka, which influenced Disney’s *The Lion King* (1994) to such an extent that it sparked an international controversy over plagiarism. This cell belongs to the 1997 version produced by Tezuka Production — an animated film produced after Tezuka’s death (1989) as a posthumous tribute to his work. Leo and his cub in the same frame: a composition that directly conveys the generational passing of the torch at the heart of the series — the white lion bequeathing the legacy of the forest to his son.
