This dôga is the most explicitly comical and the most physically revealing of the three: Onizuka is bare-chested and muscular, with hair partially covering his forehead — and on that forehead, writing barely visible beneath his hair; his eyes are half-open, his mouth is open with clenched teeth, and his irritation is barely contained.
The writing on his forehead is a recurring gag in GTO — one of the series’ most characteristic comic devices. Onizuka, whose physical strength impresses his pupils, is invariably vulnerable when he is asleep or lets his guard down: his pupils take advantage of this to write on his face, stick little posters on his back, or subject him to humiliations that his status as the school’s most formidable teacher makes all the more amusing. His half-open eyes and clenched teeth signal his awakening or realisation — Onizuka has just realised what has been done to him, and his anger is mounting before the outburst.
This single panel captures the character’s fundamental contradiction: the physique of a street fighter, yet the misadventures of a man whom his own pupils manipulate with disconcerting ease.
