Description
A tobacco jar depicting an elegant Second Empire lady, shown full-length, her shoulders covered by an embroidered capeline with a hood and gold pompoms, wearing a crinoline and a muff. In a graceful gesture, she reveals her right ankle and ankle boot, which was very daring for the time. The decoration on her garment, in shades of pastel blue, pink, yellow and green, is quite refined and is reminiscent of that on the pot in Figure 38, of which this seems to be the smaller, less ridiculous female counterpart.
Probably French. Painted biscuit porcelain, 19th century
Marked beneath the pot and in pen with the number 47 (the mould number) and inside the lid with the number 2.
H 19 cm
