Description
A large tobacco jar, roughly rectangular in shape, depicting a young woman seated on a barrel organ partially covered with a purple cloth; she wears a tiara, a red bustier revealing a generous cleavage and a white skirt, decorated with purple bows and small bouquets of wildflowers, which reveals the lady’s undergarments.
In her right hand she holds the instrument’s crank handle and in her left, a trumpet. Cymbals are attached at her feet. This is not an idealised woman, but a more risqué figure, somewhere between a circus girl and a woman of easy virtue. It should be noted that, despite its many ‘imperfections’, this Pot has come down to us in impeccable condition.
19th-century Bohemian porcelain
Marked on the underside of the lid with the numbers 5 and 2574; however, as with the previous piece, its provenance from the Conta and Böhme factory is certain.
Part of the spout is missing. The handle is broken but can be easily reattached.
H 245cm
