A true celebration of femininity, this time in an intimate setting, this porcelain snuff box depicts a young woman with brown ‘belles anglaises’ curls, in keeping with the fashion of the time, seated in an armchair with a finely carved wooden backrest, playing the guitar in a graceful pose. As is always the case with this potter, the costume is meticulously rendered: a dress with balloon sleeves, covered by a multicoloured floral apron and fitted with a midnight-blue bustier—itself fastened with a rose and red ribbons—reveals a frilled pink petticoat.
