The engineer Manesson-Mallet was ‘Master of Mathematics to the Pages of the Petite Écurie’ under Louis XIV.
A charming work, divided into four parts – geometry, trigonometry, planimetry, stereometry – and is lavishly illustrated with beautiful full-page engravings: Manesson-Mallet illustrates his points using examples drawn from French and foreign castles, mills, gardens and fountains. Thus, his scientific work is also a historical document on the state of construction at the very beginning of the 17th century, particularly in the Paris region.
