Description
The Kinematofor or Hot-Air Praxinoscope – Ernst Plank, Germany, circa 1900 – Mounted on a board featuring a hot-air engine, a set of pulleys and belts, and its mirror assembly mounted on its axis of rotation. It bears an oval copper plate stamped with the winged wheel and the initials E.P. The board-mounted assembly with integrated heat engine, flywheel and transmission system is characteristic of this German manufacturer’s output. Operation: The engine heats the air in a firebox; the expansion drives a piston, which sets the flywheel and transmission in motion. The mirror assembly rotates and, by fixing one of the mirrors in place, the illusion of movement is created as the strip passes by. An additional drum and 7 original strips are included. Dimensions – Praxinoscope 16 x 41 x 12 cm. Drums – Diameter: 16.5 cm. Please note – The belts are not original; there is some wear to the paint and varnish on the sheet-metal bowls; all the mirrors are present and are original.
