Description
Ceremonial ‘Trishula’ trident made of partially gilded iron. The lower section, tubular and hollow, is designed to be fitted onto the top of a shaft, which is missing here. Just above this, centring the piece, is a skull with deep eye sockets, from which three blades extend; the two lateral blades are bifid, their tips featuring mandorlas with openwork ornamental motifs. A pendant hangs from each side branch. The mandorlas and the outlines of the blades are gilded. Tibet, 17th–18th century Height: 65 cm
