In the western Solomon Islands, barava were closely linked to ancestors, sacred sites and the memory of lineages – some also served as markers of a clan’s rights over its lands.
Regulatory status: Giant clam shell (Tridacna gigas), a species listed in Appendix II of CITES and in Annex B of the European regulations.
