GUERRE HOUSE in Langres, Attributed to Jean-Baptiste GUERRE (1788–1863)
FOLDING KNIFE with twin folding blades and mounted mother-of-pearl scales. Silver (800) ferrules. One blade in silver (800) hallmarked by a silversmith (HW – Different: a five-pointed star). The second blade is made of polished steel, stamped ‘Guerre à Langres’ and surmounted by the Legion of Honour beneath an imperial crown.

Cutler and founder of the GUERRE firm in 1818. He represented the town of Langres at the Louvre exhibition in 1819. He was granted the title of purveyor to the King in 1821 (LOUIS XVIII). He was made a Knight of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour by decree of 10 February 1856; he died on 14 December 1863 in Nice. His son, Charles GUERRE, took over the business in 1860. He took part in the exhibitions of 1862 and 1867 and died in 1876.
