SEVRES after Henri CHAPU (1833-1891)
President Sadi Carnot, the original plaster created around 1888
BUST.
Bisque proof representing Sadi Carnot in presidential costume. Square base signed on the side. The cartouche on the front reads "Carnot Président de la République". Stamp and engraved mark "ER 94.7.LV" on the back for Eugène Richard (active in Sèvres from 1872 to 1907).

Provenance: Private collection, Saint-Jean-le-Vieux, Pays Basque. A family tradition, this bust is said to have been given to Louis Etcheverry as a gift on the occasion of his departure from the Assemblée Nationale in 1893.
