Born in Andalusia, José IBAÑEZ studied painting at Madrid's Complutense University, graduating in 1990. He continued his studies in 1994 at the Cercle des Beaux-Arts de Madrid, in the contemporary art workshop run by Santiago SERRANO. His work is built up by successive gestural superimpositions, creating a dense, vibrant framework. Between sobriety and saturation, his work develops an almost musical tension: the accumulation of gestures generates visual rhythms, while the spaces left in reserve open up breaths in the composition.
