A rectangular pocket-sized miniature portrait under glass depicting Claudine Mélanie Bignon, Viscountess of
Verneaux (1804–1869), painted in gouache on a sheet of elephant ivory (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or
Loxodonta cyclotis).
In a case covered in black leather
Signed ‘Fontallard’ and dated 1845 in the bottom left-hand corner

Item composed wholly or partly of ivory from proboscideans of the Elephantidae family (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis), listed in Appendix I/A of CITES/EU.
