FONTALLARD, Jean-François GERARD, known as (1772–1857) A rectangular pocket-sized miniature portrait under glass depicting Claudine Mélanie Bignon, Viscountess of Verneaux (1804–1869), painted in gouache on a sheet of elephant ivory (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis). In a case covered in black leather Signed ‘Fontallard’ and dated 1845 in the bottom left-hand corner Dimensions: 6.3 x 5.3 cm Total gross weight: 25.9 g Item composed wholly or partly of ivory from proboscideans of the Elephantidae family (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis), listed in Appendix I/A of CITES/EU. In accordance with the regulatory provisions in force within the European Union (Regulation (EU) No 2021/2280 of 16 December 2021), the item will be handed over to the purchaser together with its Intra-Community Certificate FR2601200011-K issued by the DREAL, accompanied by the expert report drawn up by Mr Pierre Grignon Dumoulin, a court-appointed expert in works of art composed of materials derived from biodiversity and an approved agent. Re-export outside the EU is prohibited, except to state cultural institutions upon presentation of supporting documentation.
