Description
A clock in gilded chiselled bronze and white marble. The Prayer to Love. A woman in a supplicating pose implores a putto who is about to crown her with a laurel wreath. Based on a model by Etienne-Augustin LEROY (1737–1792) held in the collections of the National Museum of the Palaces of Versailles and Trianon under inventory number V.2013.3. The composition itself is borrowed from a painting by Jean-Baptiste Greuze, which was exhibited at the 1769 Salon and is now held in the Wallace Collection in London. White enamelled dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. Presumably signed Crosnier (signature erased). With a pendulum. Louis XVI style, circa 1900. Height: 39.5 cm. Length: 32.5 cm. Width: 16 cm. (Oxidation, signs of wear).
