Set comprising: - Gérard DEFRESNES (20th century) Images of our life, May 1951. A set of twelve woodcuts, printed on a hand press by Henri Kerdraon at the Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe political prisoners’ camp in the Tarn. Fifty-five copies of this work were printed, including one for Pope Pius XII. Commissioned in the aftermath of the Second World War by former political prisoners of the camp, this work by Gérard Defresnes is a testament to their gratitude towards the Archbishop of Albi, Mgr Moussaron, who had visited them during their imprisonment. Presented to him on the occasion of his priestly jubilee in 1951, he received the first copy. The booklet combines depictions of life in the camp with religious scenes. An inscription on the first page is addressed to Dr Julia de Framory (?). Dimensions: 37x27 cm. (Stains). -Text by Paul LEAUTAUD (1872–1956) and illustrations by André DIGNIMONT (1891–1965) “Amours”, Paris, Éditions Marcel Lubineau, 1958. Folio-sized copy. Print no. 62, to which have been attached an early black-and-white version of the illustrations, a rejected plate in two versions, and two sheets of sketches. Bound in red half-maroquin. (Stains, wear and tear). Included: - Earl MACPHERSON (1910–1993) “Artist’s Sketchpad”, a 1944 calendar featuring pin-up illustrations. Twelve prints corresponding to the months of the year, signed within the composition and bound together. Printed for Brown & Bigelow, USA. Dimensions: 36x23 cm. (Introductory text by Leo Morrisson detached from the binding). - A press clipping: “A Pagan Mystic: Gérard Locardi”, by Maurice Raphaël.
