L'ILLUSTRATION – Russian monarchs in France. Set of three issues: - Issue of Saturday 17 October 1896 devoted to the visit of Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Fedorovna to France. It reports in particular on their participation in the ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the Alexandre III Bridge, their visit to the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory, and their attendance at a gala held at the Palace of Versailles. The issue includes two supplements, one of which is an engraving depicting the review of the Châlons camp and the parade of troops past the official grandstand. The composition is signed in the bottom left-hand corner by Scott and in the bottom right-hand corner by Bellanger (?). Dimensions: 40x113 cm. The second supplement consists of an engraving showing the heads of state side by side, based on a photograph by Boyer dated 5 October 1896. Dimensions: 60x40 cm. - Issue of Saturday 4 September 1897, recounting the visit to Russia by the President of the French Republic, Félix Faure, during which he was received by Emperor Nicholas II. The issue includes, as a supplement, a poster depicting the two heads of state seated together at a table, in a composition signed by Louis SABATTIER (1863–1935) and entitled: ‘... Our two nations, friends and allies’. Dimensions: 59x41 cm. - Issue of Saturday 21 September 1901, including as a supplement an engraving of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra in full-length view, based on a photograph by C. E. de Hahn. Dimensions: 59.5 x 40.5 cm. Dimensions of the magazines: 41 x 30.5 cm. (Tears, creases, stains). Included is a set of 20th-century posters, comprising in particular: - Four posters for the ‘Nuit de l’Agro’. Dimensions: 59 x 39 cm. - Two advertising posters for ‘Pschitt citron’. Dimensions: 61 x 42 cm.
