Camille ROCHE (1894–1948) Portrait of a Man Pencil and pastel on grey marbled paper. Stamp from the studio sale on the reverse. Unsigned. Sheet dimensions: 36.3 x 27.3 cm. (Creases in the paper). In a framed display with glass (damage to the glass). Also included: - Camille ROCHE (1894–1948). Landscape of Brides-les-Bains, 1905. Oil on panel, titled, dated and signed on a label on the reverse. Dimensions: 41 x 33 cm. Camille Roche was an artist who regularly exhibited at the major art salons of the first half of the 20th century, such as the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. His work, inspired by nature and the animal world, is characterised by Far Eastern influences. He also created interior designs for prominent figures such as Colette, for whom he produced large frescoes of Eastern inspiration, and Coco Chanel. Among his most notable commissions was the decoration of Villa Le Roc in Juan-les-Pins, owned by Lady and Lord Cholmondeley, Chamberlain to the Queen of England.
