Description
Enrico Braga (1841–1919) Bust in Carrara marble depicting a woman Depicted wearing a wide ruffled collar; signed ‘E. Braga’ on the back; resting on a marble pedestal H: 80 cm Enrico Braga was born in the canton of Ticino (Switzerland) in 1841. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, before spending several years in Saint Petersburg. There he built up a substantial clientele, including several members of the Russian imperial family, for whom he painted portraits. Prized for the liveliness of his style and his penchant for realism, Braga exhibited regularly in Italy and England. He submitted several works to the Promotrice di Belle Arti di Torino between 1868 and 1879, then exhibited in Turin in 1880, in Rome in 1883, and at the Royal Academy in London between 1872 and 1883.
