The sculptor Angelo del Maino worked mainly in Pavia. He began his career with his brother in their father’s workshop in Milan, as a master cabinetmaker. They worked chiefly on liturgical items and objects intended for churches. Angelo del Maino, however, revitalised the genre by introducing a softer style, reminiscent of marble sculpture and Roman influence.
The Louvre holds eighteen drawings attributed to Angelo del Maino (INV 6359 to INV 5371). We can link our pair of drawings to these various figures, dated around 1520.
