Lucienne GILLET-DUVAL (1883–1962). G., marble, exhibited at the 1908 Salon national des artistes français under no. 1954 Related literature: Jean José Frappa, ‘Sculpture at the Salons. Société des Artistes français’, in *Le Monde illustré*, 16 May 1908, pp. 321–326 (the marble sculpture is illustrated on p. 326) This preparatory plaster cast, covered with hundreds of reference marks (‘mise au point’), served as the working model used to carve the marble sculpture exhibited at the 1908 Salon. Its presence in the artist’s studio suggests that she may have marked out her marble sculptures herself, without systematically relying on a specialist — a rare and notable fact for a female sculptor of this generation. That year, Gillet exhibited three portraits (nos. 1954–1956): ‘Bust of Mrs H.G.’ in marble, ‘Doudou’, a marble bust, and a ‘Head of a Young Boy’ in plaster, likely portraits of her sister Henriette (the initials H.G. may refer to ‘Henriette Gillet’, her maiden name) and of her young nephews Paul and Henri Lambert, born in 1904 and 1906.
