The Eterna Matic KonTiki is a legendary watch, launched in 1958 to honor the famous 1947 expedition led by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. Heyerdahl and his crew crossed the Pacific Ocean on a balsa wood raft (the Kon-Tiki), relying on Eterna watches. This model is renowned for its "robustness" and waterproofness, and is recognizable by the raft medallion engraved on the caseback. The "Eterna-Matic" name comes from the reliable automatic movement with a ball-bearing rotor, an innovation patented by Eterna (the "five dots" symbol). It is considered an icon of the first robust diver's watches.
