Description
Topoke purse sword
An elegantly shaped wrought-iron blade reminiscent of the large blade of a fine sword.
In very good condition, it has a beautiful black patina, the result of time and use.
Presented on a custom-made metal stand.
Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire).
Height: 167 cm.
Topoke swords were used by various tribal groups in the Congo (Nkutshu, Topoke and Songo Meno peoples) as currency. They were used to conclude important transactions, such as land sales or marriage proposals. This primitive currency, forged from a single piece of iron, is very old.
