23 x 15.5 cm. 103 leaves. 7 lines per page.
A selection of richly coloured suras from the Qur'an, on coloured paper enhanced with flashes of gold (each page a different colour), written in cursive in black ink, with diacritical marks and black vowels. Gold discs separate the verses, gold fillets decorate the entire text, the inner margins are decorated with red, blue and gold fillets, and key words appear in the wide outer margins. A frontispiece illuminated in colour and gold is preceded by a rectangular illuminated panel richly decorated with floral motifs. The last folio includes a colour drawing of a rosebush.
Ownership inscriptions and seal impressions. Bound in red morocco with central and border panels stamped in gilt leather inlaid with floral motifs in relief and inscriptions.
Lining decorated with bouquets of flowers in the Kashmiri style.
Probably Kashmir, 19th century (1866?).
