Manuscript in Pashto Fragmentary piece on paper with ten illuminated miniatures. India, 19th century. 23 x 14 cm (miniatures: approx. 15.8 x 10.5 cm), 30 leaves (plus 6 endpapers), randomly bound leaves apparently from two different manuscripts, 10 large miniatures and an illuminated title, opaque ink and watercolour enhanced with gold, miniature leaves with additional marginal floral decoration in gold and orange. A few stains, top edges of some leaves slightly blackened (without affecting the miniatures). Modern soft leather binding. The miniatures presented here include: (1) Hunting scene with ladies bathing in foreground, (2) Pleasure boat ride with ladies swimming in lotus-filled lake, (3) Cockfight scene, (4) Nobleman drinking wine with ladies in courtyard, (5 and 6) Double-page hunting scene featuring deer and lioness, (7) Nobleman drinking wine with ladies in the palace garden, (8) Two noblemen entertaining ladies in a garden with attendants, (9) Couple drinking wine outside with ladies bathing, a saddled horse in the foreground, (10) Phoenix hunt.
