Description
Calendar of liturgical celebrations (Տօնացոյց) Constantinople, impr. Asdvatsadour of Constantinople (Աստվածատուր), 1740. In-8° (16 x 10 cm). 384 and 48 pages (= 382 pages). Contains seven large woodcuts in the text, a large engraved headband, several woodcut vignettes, figurative initials and marginal engravings. The woodcuts (the Nativity, the Resurrection, the Ascension, Pentecost, the Virgin of the Apocalypse, the Transfiguration, the Crucifixion) were executed by Krikor de Merzifon (Գրիգոր Մարզվանեցո) and inspired by the engravings by Christoffel van Sichem used in the Oskan Bible. The last 48 pages are printed on coloured paper. Title page previously restored. Professionally restored contemporary calf binding. Handwritten inscription on first inside cover: Յիշատակ է տօնացոյցս այս Ա[ստւա]ծատուր Սահակեան-Ղատամեանցի ծնողաց հոգւոյն ի դուռն Աղոթատան Մէլիթոբօլ քաղաքի ի 1864 ամի ի մեկն սեպտեմբեր: This calendar of festivals is dedicated to the memory of the parents of Astvatsatour Sahakian-Ghatamiants, for the repose of their souls, at the gate of the House of Prayer in the city of Melitopol, in the year 1864, on the first of September.
