Description
Pope Benedict XIV, Invocation of the Holy Name of Jesus Necessary to Win a Plenary Indulgence at the Point of Death Venice, printed by Demetrios Theodosius, 1772. Small in-8°. One blank leaf, one engraved plate (Administration of the last sacraments), 12 numbered pages, 4 blank leaves. Modern paper cover. This is a rare supplement, printed separately, to the book by Fr. Mekhitar of Sebaste (Մխիթար Սեբաստացի), Exercises in Mental Prayer (Կրթութիւն աղօթից) (1772) which translates into Armenian the recent decree of the Congregation of Propaganda Fide, promulgated by Pope Benedict XIV on 5 April 1772, according to which if the faithful in mission countries die without having a priest with them and without receiving the sacraments, a plenary indulgence is granted to them provided only that, contrite, they at least invoke the Name of Jesus with their hearts, that they accept death from the hands of God with submission and humility and that they place their souls in the hands of their Creator.
