The makila is made of scarified medlar wood, with a horn pommel and a braided leather strap; it has a brass tip and a brass ferrule with chiselled geometric decoration inscribed with ‘Etsaiaren Beldurra Naiz’ (a traditional Basque motto meaning ‘I am the terror of my enemies’), a cruciform iron ferrule, with the inscriptions ‘Meilleur ouvrier de France 1936, Anciart-Bergara, Larressore’.
