Description
A curved Louis XV-period chest of drawers, stamped ‘Nicolas PETIT’. The piece, curved on three sides, features a rosewood veneer decoration surrounding a narrow border set within violette wood panels. It opens at the front to reveal five drawers in three rows and rests on a curved base. It is adorned with gilded chiselled bronze fittings, including handles, pull-outs, apron, drop-downs, drop-down extensions and feet. The top is of red Rance marble, moulded with a corbin’s beak motif. Stamped on the rear right side panel with the mark of Nicolas Petit, who was admitted as a master in Paris on 21 January 1761, and bearing the Jurande hallmark. NB: Warping on both sides; veneer lifting. Retains its original metalwork; it has been restored. H. 87 – D. 68 – W. 130.5 cm.
