Silver teapot in the ‘Japanese-style’ tradition, marked ‘PARIS’ with the Minerva hallmark (1st Title), by François Nicoud, 1875–1880, 19 Boulevard de Strasbourg, Paris. It rests on a plain silver pedestal; the body is chiselled on both sides, depicting a tit or passerine perched on a leafy, flowering branch. The spout is shaped like a natural bamboo shoot, whilst the handle features branches and foliage; the centre of the handle is covered with a woven pattern of fibres.
