Description
A small sloping desk serving as a fire screen, dating from the Directoire period. It comprises two parts: a paperweight that opens via a flap, concealing two small drawers. The top is fitted with a white marble slab framed by a small openwork brass rail. This piece rests on a fire-screen base made of mahogany and mahogany veneer. The base is turned, joined by a cross-leg shelf and supported by a small tapered leg with a ring. Decorated with small bench-style mouldings and a small turned finial. Work from the Directoire period. NB. In perfect condition; the screen lacks its fabric covering. H. 98.5 – D. 27.5 – W. 49.5 cm.
