Description
Empire-period mahogany living room furniture. It is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, comprising a large sofa, a pair of bergère chairs, a pair of armchairs and a set of four chairs. The backrests are crowned with a pediment carved with scrollwork and a small lotus leaf. The sloping backrests feature smooth-sided arms supported by a small capital carved with palmettes. The trapezoidal seat, which is curved at the front, rests on a sabre-shaped base at the rear, tapered to a spindle shape and decorated with small lotus leaves and mouldings. A piece from the Empire period attributed to the Jacob workshop. NB: This living room furniture is upholstered; some pieces retain their original webbing, whilst others have spring upholstery. No added legs or repairs. Small reinforcing brackets. Set in need of restoration.
