Description
A small 19th-century children’s wardrobe in natural oak. It features a projecting cornice carved with a ribbon motif and a frieze of heart-shaped stripes. It opens via two small doors fitted with brass lace-patterned fittings. The cabinet is richly carved with a floral frieze, a floral basket, vine tendrils, acanthus leaves and laurel leaves. The lower crossbar is decorated with a bird amongst ears of wheat. The front base has rounded sides decorated with godrons. It rests on a volute base resembling a caprine’s foot. Brass mortise lock. A 19th-century piece from Normandy. NB: The key is missing. This piece is reminiscent of work that could be classified as ‘masterpieces’. The size of this small cabinet suggests it was intended as a child’s piece of furniture. H. 110 – D. 39.5 – W. 97 cm.
