Larry RIVERS (1923–2002) “Rivers’ party”, 1999 Evening gown and painting by Couture Helenbeck One-off piece It was Arman who introduced Larry Rivers to Brigitte Helenbeck during a trip to the United States. A catalogue of the exhibition “Larry Rivers, Monte Carlo Fashion Show 2001” will be presented to the buyer. Created for the “Modern Art Couture” fashion show on 10 December 1999 at the Ferrero Gallery in Nice, with a novel concept explained by Ben: “A painting isn’t necessarily something you hang on the wall; you can also wear it.” The painting becomes mobile. In 2000, a second Helenbeck Haute Couture fashion show took place at Jimmy’s in Monte Carlo in partnership with Ferrari. An American painter, sculptor, musician and filmmaker, and a pioneer of Pop Art. His figures are inspired by jazz dancers; he was a friend of Miles Davis. In 1991 and 1992, he collaborated on Niki de Saint Phalle’s series of ‘exploding’ paintings, in particular those dedicated as a tribute to Jean Tinguely.
