Description
Fred MELIANI (20th–21st centuries) and the ARGLOVE artists’ collective Phallic women: a tribute to witches Brooms, sequins and safety pins; tree trunk; six photographs mounted on Plexiglas Unsigned H. approx. 250 cm The broom evokes the witch – those women who were seen as a nuisance because they were intelligent and wanted to take on men’s trades. The Helenbeck Gallery in Paris is exhibiting the work of photographer Fred Meliani from 1 November to 16 December 2006. The artist, who lives between Nice and Paris, developed a project entitled *Paris sous Prozac* between January and April 2001. Following an advert published in the newspaper *Libération* in 2001, the artist photographed hundreds of strangers, asking them to portray a fictional state of mind linked to the hypothetical consumption of ‘the happiness pill’. Furthermore, on the evening of the opening, the artist will reveal another aspect of Prozac through the eyes of an artists’ collective, Arglove.
