Description
* Quentin DEROUET (born 1988) Untitled, 2014 Oil and lapis lazuli pigments on canvas Countersigned and dated on the reverse, with a label from the Helenbeck Gallery stating ‘lapis lazuli pigments on canvas derived from the crushed stone of a Berber ring’ and the exhibition ‘Quentin Derouet, le ciel change bien de couleur’ in 2014 146 x 114 cm Having graduated with honours in 2012 from the Villa Arson in Nice, Quentin Derouet has since been represented by galleries in Paris, Nice, Grenoble, as well as in Shanghai and Beirut. Chantal Helenbeck introduced him to Meilland in Antibes, who created a variety of rose for him; the artist then applied it directly to his canvas, crushed, macerated, diluted and charred. It was again Chantal Helenbeck who accompanied the artist to China, where he met the world’s leading rose grower. The colour of the material sometimes changes on the canvas over time, transforming the work into a living, organic creation.
