Based on the *Story of Alexander the Great and Diogenes*.
Design by Charles le Brun for Louis XIV.
Remarkably vivid colours.

The young Alexander, in armour, is confronted by the philosopher Diogenes, an elderly and austere figure.
This scene depicts an episode from the lives of Alexander the Great and Diogenes, illustrating the superiority of wisdom and freedom of spirit over earthly power and riches, in keeping with the political and moral interpretation of historical tapestries under Louis XIV.
