Iphigenia and Chryses.
Pair of bronze busts with a brown patina.
The busts rest on circular pedestals and fluted red marble plinths of square cross-section.
Louis XVI period, late 18th century.
H_48.5 cm and H_48 cm (including plinths).
Simon-Louis Boizot, sculptor to King Louis XVI, was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1771 and elected a full member in 1778. He also headed the sculpture workshop at the Royal Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory from 1773 to 1800. It was in 1775 that he produced two biscuit porcelain busts for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory; given their very similar craftsmanship, these were probably the master models for our bronzes.
