FRANCE, Reign of Charles X (1824–1830) An exceptional and significant Aubusson carpet Needle-worked. Tapestry technique. Made with wool yarns on a cotton ground. A burgundy-red field featuring a mosaic design of stylised rings inlaid with geometrically stylised star-shaped flowers, adorned with a central circular medallion crowned with polychrome flowers and foliage on an ivory-coloured background with brown, lilac and golden-yellow floral bulbs. Four spandrels featuring finely rendered bouquets of flowers in polychrome. Wide border decorated with rows of anthracite-coloured cartouches containing compositions of stylised flowers and foliage. Beautiful framing creating a picture-frame effect and a remarkable graphic balance. Lined carpet. Remarkably fresh colours, excellent condition, beautiful polychromy.
