Description
North-west of Persia, late 19th century. An exceptional, large, very fine and ancient Senneh Wool velour on a cotton backing Density approx. 9,000 knots per dm². Ivory field decorated with rows of botehs, their ends forming geometrically stylised bird beaks in polychrome, inlaid with small seeds (a symbol of fertility, genesis and representative of life) in the form of a very delicately drawn stylised mosaic. Triple borders, the main one being ruby-coloured and decorated with rows of floral bulb motifs in the form of stylised, multicoloured tortoise shells. In a remarkable state of preservation, with fine craftsmanship and beautifully fresh colours. H_290 cm L_173 cm Senneh carpets are considered to be among the finest.
