Description
ROYAL PRAYER CHAIR from the chapel of the Palais-Royal. Made of wood with a lacquer finish imitating natural wood. Flat back with a cuff, featuring a compartment and openwork in an X-pattern. Rests on double baluster front legs and sabre-shaped rear legs. Iron mark ‘PALAIS ROYAL’, ‘IACOB’ stamp and iron mark ‘LP’ beneath a closed crown. First third of the 19th century. H_96 cm W_53 cm D_55.5 cm. (Signs of wear). The ‘IACOB’ stamp was used by François-Honoré Jacob-Desmalter from 1813 to 1825. The LP mark beneath a closed crown was applied to royal furniture from 1830 to 1848, a period corresponding to the reign of Louis-Philippe. The Palais-Royal was the Parisian residence of the House of Orléans from 1692 until the end of the July Monarchy.
