Description
A large clock in patinated and gilded bronze and white marble, depicting an allegory of Reading. The movement is housed within an architecturally styled gilded bronze case, adorned with large acanthus leaves and surmounted by a laurel wreath. The whole stands on a substantial rectangular stepped plinth of white marble, highlighted by rich ornamentation in chiselled and gilded bronze. It rests on six small spindle-shaped feet. The white enamelled dial features Roman numerals for the hours and a minute track. Movement signed Balthazar Paris. Restoration period, circa 1820–1830. H_56 cm W_68 cm D_22 cm
