Émile-Louis Picault was one of the French sculptors who most successfully explored the Egyptian-inspired repertoire in the second half of the 19th century. Exhibiting at the Salon from the 1860s onwards, he created several figures of Egyptian priests, scribes and rulers, whose iconography combines contemporary archaeological discoveries with a theatrical and spectacular vision of ancient Egypt.
