Henri Rivière (1864–1951) – The First Quarter. 1901. Printed by Verneau. Original lithograph on ivory-coloured glossy vellum. Monogrammed on the plate in the bottom right-hand corner. Good overall condition, fresh colours. Plate: 57.7 x 24 cm; Sheet: 63.5 x 31 cm. This is plate no. 5 from the series *La féerie des heures*. Reference: Toudouze 109. Back at the harbour, fishermen in Brittany hang their nets to dry on the mast in the moonlight. Thus, what we see are not sails, but evidence of a local craft tradition, mainly practised by sardine fishermen.
