CHINARD Joseph (1756–1813). Claude Bourgelat (1712–1779), founder of the Lyon Veterinary School Plaster medallion. Signed, located and dated “Chinard. Lyon. / 1787” on the shoulder line. Inscribed twice with “CLAUDE BOURGELAT” around the edge. Diameter 23 cm; in a gilded wooden frame. Provenance: Collection of the Count of Penha Longa; sold at his auction on 2 December 1911 at the Georges Petit gallery in Paris (lot no. 22). Exhibitions: - P. Vitry, Exhibition of works by the sculptor Chinard of Lyon (1756–1813) at the Pavillon de Marsan (Palais du Louvre), exhibition catalogue. Paris, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 1909–1910, listed under no. 83.
