Reissued in 1984, this is an emblematic composition by René Vincent, a major illustrator of the inter-war period, known for his elegant and dynamic posters relating to the automobile, fashion and modern life. His style, characterised by fluid lines, great legibility and effective graphic synthesis, was part of the Art Deco aesthetic and contributed to the golden age of illustrated posters in France. When I was very young, I met his elderly daughter, who told me that "my father always had work because he was the only one who knew how to draw horses and cars perfectly".
