Produced in 1955 for the exhibition of 110 unpublished drawings by Toulouse-Lautrec at the Galerie Lucie Weill on the Pont des Arts in Paris, this poster contributed to the rediscovery and promotion of the graphic work of Toulouse-Lautrec, a major figure at the end of the 19th century and one of the greatest masters of the modern poster alongside Alphonse Mucha. Known for his depictions of Parisian life, cabarets and the world of entertainment, he revolutionised the art of the poster with his highly modern brushstrokes and unprecedented expressive power. This exhibition of never-before-seen drawings highlights the importance of his graphic work beyond his most famous posters. Printed by Mourlot, a major reference in twentieth-century art lithography.
