Description
Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973) - Lipchitz, Musée national d'art moderne, 1959 (probably Mourlot). 64x48cm. Original poster, lithograph. Not canvas-backed. Condition A-, tiny small lack on the left margin. Produced for an exhibition devoted to Jacques Lipchitz at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in 1959, this poster marked the institutional recognition of one of the great sculptors of the 20th century, a major figure in sculpted cubism alongside Pablo Picasso and Henri Laurens. Lipchitz developed a monumental body of work in which fragmented, dynamic forms reflected a profoundly expressive vision of modern sculpture, before evolving towards a more spiritual production after his exile in the United States. The Musée National d'Art Moderne, housed in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris at the time, played a central role in showcasing the great artists of international modernism.
