Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012) - Letter A. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 55.5 x 75.5 cm. Signature in the plate. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work is a masterly illustration of Tàpies' plastic language, in which the alphabetic sign loses its utilitarian function to become a metaphysical symbol. The letter 'A', the first letter of the alphabet and also the initial of the first name of the artist and his wife Teresa, is treated here with a raw graphic force, almost incised into the pictorial material.
